A divorce is a very stressful time, and there will be many emotions involved. There are things you need to know, and some things you will never be prepared for. Everyone’s situation is different. You cannot truly know how to handle a situation until you go through it yourself.

Here are some things that you will discover when going through a divorce.

True Colors

You think you know someone, but true colors can really shine when you are going through a divorce. People can really show their ugly side, and a lot of anger can be conveyed. It isn’t easy to come to terms with such a huge change, and there will be things both parties dislike.

It's hard to deal with emotions, as you loved that person one day, and the next day they are someone you never knew. Divorce will not bring out the best in either party, just don’t be surprised at the things that occur during this time.

Children

We should always do what is best for the children, but this doesn’t always occur. They are the innocent ones in the matter, and they have the most potential to get hurt. There will be times when one or the other party does things out of spite, and they do it without thinking about their children. This usually happens because of hurt and upset.

Trying to be nice

It doesn’t always pay to be the nice one. During a divorce, there will be times when you have to stand your ground. Otherwise, you may end up with nothing. Negotiation will play a big part of your divorce, and rationality will take a back seat.

Conflict

There will be conflict, and you need to be careful of how your children see this. Try to get along with your ex as best as you can. This will make it so much easier for your children.
