When you think about the leading cause of divorce, you may immediately think its infidelity. However, this isn't the truth. While infidelity is one of the causes of divorce in Michigan and throughout the rest of the world, most couples don't split up because one of the partners cheated.
Times have certainly changed and in a study done by a UK company about causes of divorce in the last four decades, they found that the leading cause currently is unreasonable behavior at 47%, while infidelity is only 15%. In the 1970s, these were nearly the same with infidelity at 29% and unreasonable behavior at 28%.
This is a very vague term and can cover a number of different things. It could be a husband that cross-dresses, a partner wanting a sex change, a wife feeling guilty for going out with friends or more commonly something financial. Finances cause divorce quite often and it could be one partner running through the family savings or a big disagreement about how to handle the family budget.
In a study done by The National Fatherhood Initiative in the United Stated, it was stated that 73% of divorces were due to a lack of commitment, while 56% stated the divorce was caused by too much arguing or fighting.
Another study done by The Huffington Post stated that couples that argue about money in the first three years of their marriage are at a greater risk of ending up divorced.
Finances, unreasonable behavior, infidelity and fighting may be the reasons stated for divorce, but the main cause of divorce is a lack of communication. This leads to issues, which fall into all of these categories. Communication is one of the most important parts of any marriage and without it; many other issues can cause the marriage to end.
