• If one spouse doesn’t have an income and the other waits till the last minute to pay support even though the spouse waiting for support is sustaining the children
• If one spouse charges large purchase on joint credit cards and then the other spouse is forced it pay for it since they are responsible for any credit card debts in the divorce settlement

Other tricks that people try are regarding custody. One spouse may try to petition court for primary custody even though you’ve already verbally arranged to joint custody. Another trick is when one party refuses to speak to the other, which makes arrangements impossible and creates conflict.

Divorce can be stressful enough, but protecting yourself by being aware of lawyer tactics can make the process a lot more manageable.
