How to Start the Healing After He/She Cheated

Apr 17, 2014

If your partner cheated, it doesn't mean your marriage has to be over. However, if you do plan to end the marriage, due to the infidelity, you may need help healing. Here are a few ways you can start the healing process.

Those looking to save the marriage will need to start looking for a solution, not another problem. Focusing on the affair won't help the haling process, but can destroy any trust that is left. Stay open minded and work on rebuilding the trust instead of focusing only on the mistake made by your partner.

Saving your marriage may not be possible, however. If this is the case, you can use the following suggestions to help the healing process:

  • Surviving is the first step. Be aware of the emotions you're feeling and admit to yourself what you are feelings first.
  • Understand that your thinking during an emotionally stressful time is distorted. You may be reacting in a non-sensible way.
  • Infidelity doesn't have to be the end of the world. You will move on and understanding this, will help you heal.
  • Choosing a direction and moving forward will also help you heal.
  • Seek out counseling, divorce care or another type of support during this time.

All of these things can help you start to heal after your partner cheats. Whether you plan to enjoy a stronger marriage with your partner one day or a new partner, you must heal first.

Infidelity is a hard thing to deal with for sure. It can end a good marriage in a hurry, but it doesn't have to be the end of the world. If you want the most out of your new marriage, make sure you go through the full healing process first. This will ensure you are ready to trust again.
