Moving on After the Divorce is Final

Mar 28, 2014

Going through a divorce isn't easy and, usually, you're so consumed with the process you don't have time to think about moving on yet. However, as soon as it's finished, it's time to start moving on with your life.

This doesn't mean once the divorce is final, you should start dating immediately. Everybody is difference and some will take longer to move on than others. Here are a few things to consider when moving on after a divorce.

Discover and Avoid Triggers

We all have triggers and becoming aware of them makes a huge difference. Maybe your trigger is talking to your ex-spouse about certain things. If you're aware of this, you can avoid those topics when talking with him/her.

Make New Memories

Dwelling on bad memories from the past won't help you move on at all. However, if you begin making happy memories, they will replace the old memories. For example, starting a new holiday tradition or redecorating your home is a great way to help you move on.

Stay Positive

A positive attitude is essential to moving on. It may seem very difficult, at times, but staying positive and taking a new approach to life can help you cope with the loss.

Keep an Open Mind and Heart

You never know what is right around the corner. Once you've determined that you are emotionally stable and ready for a new relationship, have an open heart and mind to love.

Other tips for moving on after a divorce include:

  • Change Jobs - Only if you feel you're stuck in a bad or dead end job.
  • Join a Singles Group
  • Take a Class or finish your degree
  • Forgive and let go of the anger

Follow these tips, even when it's difficult, and you will be able to move on with your life.
